It’s Not Just About the TEETH!
BY DR. MARK MURPHY, DDS, FAGD
A recent survey from BHG shows that The Cost and Effort of Running the Business, as well as Work Life Balance are top-of-mind concerns for dentists in independent practices. Dental school prepares us well to work within the four-inch oral cavity sphere, but training on how to hire motivated teams, deal with dental insurance and run a million-dollar business is lacking.
Most continuing education offerings at meetings are clinically oriented because that is what dentists ask for. They tell meeting planners that they WANT more technical education. It is comfortable and within their core competency. The real question is, what do they NEED? Surveys indicate a gap between what is wanted and what they need. At MicroDental, we find, the most successful practices often have stepped outside their comfort zone and learned more about human resources, marketing and strategic planning. They support their desire to be clinically excellent with solid business training. Our recent program at MicroDental Livermore is a good example. Dr. Chris Pescatore and Dr. Mark Murphy spoke about the Art, Science and Business of Cosmetic Dentistry, not just the technical stuff. Getting patients to say yes and having an inspiring team go a long way in helping more patients have healthier mouths and smiles.
Our newsletters, blogs, Instagram post, marketing materials and continuing education, will continue to provide a balanced approach to helping you succeed and thrive in your practice. When clinical skills are balanced with good business acumen and supported by a dental laboratory that understands you, everybody wins.
